Mexicali is as much of a business city as a tourist destination and local accommodations are keen on addressing the needs that come with these conditions. Hotels in the city range from luxurious ones to economical lodgings. Most are located along Blvd. Benito Suarez, from Calzada Independencia going towards the north. The cheaper accommodations can be found in older streets around the Mexican border.
The Crowne Plaza Hotel, rated three star by several travel and tourist websites, is a medium rise hotel located two blocks away from Mexicali’s commercial and financial center. It has 158 rooms and offers various function halls that can accommodate small board meetings as well as big conferences. It also has a fully-equipped gym, a sauna, a spa, a swimming pool, and a restaurant that serves seafood and Chinese cuisines. The golf course is a mere 15-minute ride; the Sanchez Taboada International Airport airport is 20 minutes away while the San Diego International Airport is two hours away.
The Lucerna Mexicali is another three-star hotel which features a family building and a bungalow area around the pool in addition to the six-story main building. Its amenities include two bars, a disco, meeting rooms, a fitness center, and a ballroom. Its restaurants offer international cuisines as well as Mexican and American food. Lucerna is a few steps away from the bus and railway stations and 25 minutes away from Taboada Airport.
Calafia Hotel is a four-story building with 173 rooms. It features a business center, conference room, pool, beauty parlor, and a restaurant which offers Mexican dishes. The hotel is 25 minutes from the airport and 15 minutes from the US border.
Araiza Mexicali is a six-story luxurious hotel with 269 rooms, a well-equipped gym, tennis court, pools, and jacuzzi. Its restaurant boasts of authentic Mexican food while its cafeteria serves a variety of coffees, desserts, and salads. It is also located in the Benito Suarez Boulevard and is about 20 minutes from the Taboada Airport.
Hotel Colonial, as the name implies, is a colonial-style property that attempts to capture the classic Mexican ambiance. It caters mainly to business travelers, providing wireless internet access, a business center, and several ballrooms for conventions and conferences. It is situated near the City Hall, the State Government offices, and about five minutes away from the border. Parks and museums are also several minutes away and the Taboada Airport is a mere 20-minute ride.
The City Express is another hotel for business people. It features 117 guest rooms, a fitness center, business center, meeting room, wireless internet access, and voice mail. The downtown is 10 minutes away, the border is about 15 minutes away, and the airport is a 30-minute ride.
Fiesta Inn, which also primarily accommodates business people, offers meeting and conference facilities and a business center along with the customary amenities such as a pool, bar, restaurant, laundry service, and safe deposit box.
Hotel rates range from US$60 to US$165 per night. Cheaper hotels, with rates from US$25 to US$50, are located along the streets of Reforma and Madero, near Lopez Mateos.
